ITC Reflection
I remember on the first day, we started off with a parade. It wasn’t really a nice parade, since the sec 1s are all out. There were many boring stuff happening and only after we placed our stuff in the bunks, we start to get scoldings from the NCOs. We were supposed to clean our bunks, but sadly to say, our bunk wasn’t clean enough. Keng Seng had to suffer as we made him volunteered. In the end, he got “promoted”. I was very guilty as it was partially my fault that he had to get these dirt on his tee. As such, we all apologized to him and said that we’ll clean it well next time. Nothing much happened on the first day other than the night trail. The night trail was boring. It wasn’t scary at all. After the boring night trail, we finally went to sleep. Oh ya, the night trail was so boring that most of us fell asleep at some stations. Anyway, sleep time. It was interesting. Something interesting happened at the guys’ bunk. As we were left with one flag, we(boys) volunteered to keep it for the night. We had traps for whoever who wants to steal our flag. We placed rows of chairs around the tables which we’re sleeping on as barricades. We slept by the sides of the table, and placed the flag in the middle, with some of us guarding the flag. This was not the trap we set. We placed a pole behind the door, so that whoever who opens the door will cause the pole to drop on the floor. Then this will alert us. Indeed, the NCOs fell for this trap, and we woke up before they even get to reach the flag. This is something we guys are very proud of. Oh, and we’re very unhappy that we lost the other 4 flags. We did not know that we’ll lose the flag for every hour it’s with the NCOs. It was unfair that we had to get punished for something we don’t know. Then that night we had solo night. Most of us were too scary to even feel scared. For example, I fell asleep on the stairs. Then when all of us were asleep, we heard three whistles-two short, one long. We thought it was our fire drill and went shouting “Fire! Fire!” In the end, we got scolded again for our own foolishness. It was rather stupid to go for SJAB’s fire drill.
Then, second day came. Throughout the whole day, we did a total of 176 pumpings. We broke our record as a squad, which was quite an achievement. Then we had drill also. I must say it was one of the best drills we ever had. Solid bangs all the way throughout, but it was sad to say that we couldn’t get solid bangs at the end. If only we could last till the end, then that’ll definitely be something we can show off to others. NCOs gave us time to prepare for our campfire night dance. We wasted our time by changing slowly. In the end, we didn’t have much time since Mam took away quite a lot of our time. We couldn’t even practice for our dance. Then it was the obstacle course. Rather boring, since we did it before last year. Other than the vertical rope challenge, I’m not interested in the others. However, I must really praise my squadmates for their perseverance. No matter whether we’re tall, short, fat, slim, muscular, not muscular, all of us tried our best for the vertical wall challenge. Especially to xingyao who managed to go all the way up just with brute strength. Lastly, it was the campfire night. We saw dances from many different UG, but not all. We had to leave the hall early to prepare our dance. I must thank Ken, Yangsheng, Foonghui, Ruth, and some other people who put in effort in choreographing our dance. Also, a big thanks to the rest of the squad who cooperated. Then, it was our time to dance. Wasn’t really spectacular, but at least we successfully completed our dance. Three cheers for hotshots! I heard that NCC sec 2 guys did break dance. A pity that we didn’t get to see it. Heard that it was pretty cool. We shall train hard and be like them! After that, supper, wash up, sleeping time. Our flags got stolen by sirs/mams. They are smart people. They didn’t fall for our trap.
Lastly, it was the third day, last day of the whole ITC. Morning 10rounds, PT again, then recreation, and then cleaning of toilets. Then home sweet home!
Throughout the whole ITC, our squad have gone through thick and thin together. We became more bonded because of this camp. It was a lot different from last year. At least this year, squadmates and I persevered to the end. Pumpings and situps, we did as much as we could. Tiring as it was, we didn’t give up. Protecting our flags wasn’t easy. Freda was crazy over this, but her spirit was really worth applauding for. Also, yangsheng is another person whom I admire. PT was tough, but he didn’t grumble at all. He know it was tiring, but he still tried his best. ITC this year was a lot better than last year, though it was boring at some parts. Most important thing was, we managed to bond and became closer than ever. That’s the happiest thing throughout the whole tiring camp.
